How to Maintain a Ceramic-Coated Vehicle Properly

Ceramic coating reduces the effort required to maintain a vehicle. It does not remove maintenance entirely.

Road film, minerals, traffic contamination and environmental fallout can still build up on the surface. When that happens, water behaviour may appear weaker even though the coating remains underneath.

Correct washing and periodic decontamination allow the coating to continue performing as intended.

Safe Pre-Rinse and Contact-Wash Methods

Every wash should begin with a thorough pre-rinse. This removes loose dirt and contamination before any contact with the paint, reducing the risk of rubbing grit across the surface.

Use a pressure washer or hose to rinse the vehicle thoroughly before touching the paint with wash media. The more contamination you can remove without contact, the lower the risk of introducing fine marks.

Using Clean Wash Media and Suitable Shampoo

Use clean, high-quality microfibre wash mitts rather than sponges. Sponges trap grit against the paint and drag it across the surface. Microfibre lifts contamination away from the paint and holds it within the fibres.

Use a pH-neutral shampoo designed for ceramic-coated vehicles. Avoid harsh detergents, dishwashing liquid or products containing wax and sealants that can interfere with the coating's performance.

Why Automatic Brush Washes Should Be Avoided

Automatic brush washes are one of the fastest ways to damage a coated vehicle. The rotating brushes carry grit from every vehicle that passed through before yours, and they drag it across the paint under pressure.

Even touchless washes can cause issues if they use harsh chemicals. The safest option is always a hand wash with clean media.

Proper Drying to Reduce Water Spotting

After washing, dry the vehicle promptly using clean microfibre drying towels. Allow the water to air-dry and mineral deposits can etch into the coating, particularly in warm weather.

Drive the vehicle briefly after washing to shed excess water, then finish with a drying towel to remove remaining droplets.

Bird Droppings, Insects and Mineral Deposits

Bird droppings, insects and tree sap are acidic or alkaline and can etch into the coating if left too long. Remove them as soon as possible using a damp microfibre cloth and gentle pressure.

For stubborn deposits, use a dedicated contaminant remover rather than increasing pressure. The goal is to lift the deposit off the surface without grinding it in.

Why Water Behaviour Can Temporarily Weaken

If you notice water no longer beading or sheeting as it did, that does not necessarily mean the coating has failed. Contamination building up on the surface can mask the coating's water-repellent properties.

A thorough wash and light decontamination usually restores the water behaviour. If it does not, a coating health check can identify whether maintenance is needed.

Periodic Light Decontamination

Even with correct washing, some contamination will bond to the surface over time. Periodic light decontamination — using a dedicated iron remover or a mild clay bar — removes these deposits without damaging the coating.

How often this is needed depends on how the vehicle is used, where it is parked and the local environment. Most vehicles benefit from decontamination every six to twelve months.

Why Aggressive Chemicals and Toppers Are Not Always Necessary

There is a tendency to layer additional products — sealants, spray waxes, toppers — over a ceramic coating. While some are compatible, many are unnecessary and can interfere with the coating's performance.

Similarly, harsh chemical cleaners and degreasers can degrade the coating. Stick to products designed for ceramic-coated surfaces and avoid anything that promises aggressive results.

Maintenance Inspections and Coating Health Checks

A periodic inspection allows PJ to assess the coating's condition, identify any contamination buildup and advise whether maintenance is required. This is particularly valuable for vehicles that are daily-driven or exposed to harsh conditions.

How Forza Supports Clients After Handover

Every vehicle that receives a ceramic coating from Forza Auto Studio is provided with an aftercare guide tailored to the specific coating applied. PJ remains available for questions and can arrange maintenance decontamination or coating health checks as needed.

The strongest coating will still underperform when the surface is neglected. Correct aftercare is what turns the initial application into a genuine long-term ownership benefit.
